Hailing from Saudi Arabia, Muhannad Shono, born in 1977 to immigrant parents from Syria, is a versatile visual artist living and working in Riyadh. He completed his studies in architecture at King Fahad University of Petroleum and Minerals in Dhahran. His artistic journey is an exploration into the depths of our existence, employing a multidisciplinary approach to uncover what lies beneath the surface.
Shono discovered drawing and art at an early age as a means of exploring the world around him. He has since developed his own visual vocabulary and inimitable style, versatile and uninhibited in medium and form. His works have been presented across the world from intimate drawings, large scale sculptural works, robotic and technological pieces, among other mediums.
The multidisciplinary artist represented Saudi Arabia’s pavilion at the Venice Biennale in 2022. His work has also been shown in solo exhibitions at Athr, Jeddah, 2019; Ithra, Dammam, 2018; Künstlerhaus Bethanien, Berlin, 2018; and Athr, 2016. He has participated in group exhibitions at Desert X Al Ula, 2020; 21, 39 Jeddah Arts, 2019; Al Khuzam Historical Palace, Jeddah, 2019.
